who is an artist?

You are an artist!

My current employment involves me painting on display at paper with ink, focused not engaging with people in the room.
It's not about that, but it's what I do in within the ABOUT.

Recently, while focused on the papers surface while making brush contact, I became aware of a young girl sitting on her mother's lap that had situated themselves on the hard granite floor to watch behind me. I could feel a warm presence, and hear faint whispers, one fast, the other slow and particular in answer.
I painted for much longer than I thought spectators would watch before turning to peek at my audience.

The girl grew from sitting to standing to address me. He mother encouraged her by a reminder, " You have a question? " She egged the girl on.
It's funny that I don't remember her initial question past the manner of curiosity and the crisp sweet of her words in asking.
What I do remember is I after I asked her if she liked to paint, she burst out "Yes", with a powerful nod.
Her mother blended in a loving laugh to add she has made many, many paintings.
The girl told me distinctively that she just had made "a self portrait ...at my school".
She actually said this to me;
" When I grow up I am going to be an artist." Proudly stated.
"Oh, That's is wonderful!" I said. I don't remember what I added, but I do know what I regret NOT saying.
I didn't know my error until after she left the gallery.
I wanted to Call out after her;
: "YOU ARE AN ARTIST! NOW! "
Already! You paint and you love it. you are an artist always!
As much as anyone is, at any age Growing up to be an artist is really, growing into the artist you are!

If the mom and child ever read this; please let me paint this title for you
"You are an artist!"
